Each spring, faculty and staff are asked to volunteer for a University committee by completing the University Committee Survey. View a list of committees with descriptions.
The survey lists each committee with a vacancy and indicates whether the vacancy is to be filled with a faculty member from a particular college, staff from a particular department or office, or open to all faculty and staff. Employees are encouraged to volunteer for committees that align with their interest and expertise.
All University full and part-time faculty and staff are invited to complete the survey for committee assignments for the 2017-2018 year. The deadline to complete the survey is 8 a.m. April 24, 2017.
Survey results will be submitted to the appropriate vice president, provost or president for consideration. The Faculty Senate will also use the results of the University Committee Survey to slate recommendations for several committees that report to the provost/AVPAA or president, who then make final selections.
In its Statement on Government of Colleges and Universities (1966), the AAUP states:
"Effective planning demands that the broadest possible exchange of information and opinion should be the rule for communication among the components of a college or university."
To achieve the widest possible exchange of opinion, necessitates that each member of the University actively engages in shared governance by serving on unit, department, college or university committees. One of the main objectives of the 2015-2020 University of Louisiana at Lafayette Strategic Plan is to:
"Establish a shared governance model that facilitates trust, teamwork, and cross-functional collaboration, and aligns all stakeholders to the University's vision and mission."
